What are Erling Haaland’s odds to be Premier League top scorer?

Manchester City made a statement when they confirmed in May they would be signing Norwegian superstar Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund.

The 22-year-old averaged virtually a goal a game in his two-and-a-half seasons in the German top flight. Before that he’d scored 8 goals in 6 UEFA Champions League group stage matches for RB Salzburg.

Haaling joins the defending champions who rarely used an out-and-out striker last season. Suggesting he’s going to be starting nearly every game when fit and available this campaign.

For all the critics already claiming City will need to change their system to bed him in, I can assure you the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden, Jack Grealish and co aren’t going to have any problems adapting to a new system. And likewise, they won’t have any issues creating chances for the tall, pacey striker.

That’s why I think the bookmakers are being generous by given odds as high as 5/2 for Haaland to be the 2022-23 Premier League top scorer.

I can see there being games where he scores for fun. Probably set a Premier League record for most hat-tricks in a single campaign.

Erling Haaland should have competition from Tottenham Hotspur duo Harry Kane and Heung-min Son, whilst the departure of Sadio Mane at Liverpool means that Mohamed Salah is likely to be the only competitor on Merseyside. I’m not convinced Darwin Nunez nor Luis Diaz will score for fun in the Premier League.

I don’t see Gabriel Jesus being a threat at Arsenal, nor Raheem Sterling at Chelsea. Manchester United’s attackers tend to spread the goals between themselves.

Best bet: Erling Haaland 5/2 to be Premier League top scorer
