USA vs Wales prediction
Wales and the USA meet on Monday evening in a game that is likely to have a big say in who progresses alongside England from Group B.
Without sounding arrogant, England will progress from this group I have no doubts about that. However, they are not serious contenders for the Jules Rimet Trophy – the manager and defence simply aren’t good enough.
Speaking of defences, I think that’s the weakness of both these teams heading into the tournament. USA have a lot of pace up front, and a lot of skills in Christian Pulisic. But a defence that could include a slow Tim Ream, and an attack-minded Sergino Dest could be their undoing. Opposite them, Joe Rodon isn’t the most mobile in the heart of Wales’ defence neither.
Looking at the potential starters for the USA, the likes of Pulisic, Timothy Weah and Giovanni Reyna don’t have a huge amount of minutes behind them. Expect a lot of rotation and substitutions from coach Gregg Berhalter during the group stage, and potentially tiring in the second half.
Difficult to split the two teams, so if you are keen to bet on this match either take it in-play or look for value in the draw.
