Euro 2024
Slovenia vs Denmark Euro 2024 Prediction
Slovenia’s qualification for Euro 2024 is only the second time they have done so, following their debut in 2000. Whilst Sunday’s opponents reached the semi-finals three years ago, losing to fellow Group C member England.
With Serbia the other team in the group both of these sides may take greater risks going for the win in this one instead of sitting back for a draw as results are likely to be difficult to come by. But if qualifying’s anything to go by it will be a tight game – both of these sides finished on 22 points in Group H, with Denmark winning 2-1 at home and drawing 1-1 in Slovenia.
Manchester United’s Rasmus Hojlund will be the focal point for the Danes up front. The 21-year-old netted 7 times in qualifying. He could be supported by VfL Wolfsburg’s Jonas Wind, who scored three times himself. Head coach Kasper Hjulmand likes to use wingbacks, so Christian Eriksen, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Thomas Delaney could all start in central midfield where they will look to dictate play.
Kasper Schmeichel will be between the sticks again and have the likes of Andreas Christensen and Simon Kjaer to protect him.
Slovenia outscored Denmark in qualifying with 20 goals, but 5 of those came against Northerlands Ireland and 6 against San Marino. Finland and Kazakhstan were the other two teams in the group. RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko is the star in this squad. The 21-year-old scored 5 goals in qualifying. But goalkeeper Jan Oblak could be busy on Sunday and in all three group games.
There’s enough quality in the Denmark ranks to live up to their billing as the odds on favourites in this match.
