One of the pre-tournament favourites, Argentina, head into their final Group C game knowing only a win would guarantee them a place in the round of 16.

A draw against Poland would see both teams qualify if there is a draw between Mexico and Saudi Arabia, or the North American nation don’t win by more than two goals.

Argentina were beaten by the energetic Saudi Arabia in their opener, and whilst many consider it one of the greatest upsets in World Cup history, few have said the Middle Eastern country didn’t deserve it.

However, Lionel Messi and co bounced back in the second half versus Mexico with a 2-0 win. The Paris Saint-Germain star scored one of the goals of the tournament with a low finish from 25 yards after he bought himself some time and space on the ball.

Although I don’t see the two-time winners being a contender to goal all the way this year, I do expect them to beat Poland and potentially win Group C. The European side haven’t had much about them in their 0-0 draw with Mexico and 2-0 win over Saudi Arabia. The second goal in the latter match can courtesy of a defensive error, whilst they had been thankful to Wojciech Szczesny for a stunning double save at 0-0.

The odds aren’t great but I expect Argentina to take the game to Poland from the off and secure a comfortable win.
