World Cup
Netherlands vs USA prediction

The second round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup kicks off on Saturday with Group A winners Netherlands facing Group B runners-up USA.
Louis van Gaal’s side weren’t overly dominant in the group stage – two late goals in their opener to beat Senegal, courtesy of the opposition goalkeeper. Then they were held 1-1 by Ecuador and never really looked very threatening after scoring an early opener. Their 2-0 win over Qatar was against the worst team at this tournament.
Meanwhile, the USA haven’t looked overly impressive. They started well versus Wales but ended up drawing after Walker Zimmerman foolishly conceded a poor penalty. And whilst the 0-0 with England looks like a good result on paper, the 1966 World Cup winners were awful that day. Needing to beat Iran to qualify, they limped over the line with a 1-0.
I think USA wouldn’t have made it out of a more difficult group and are one of the weakest sides in the knockout stages. And with that I expect them to be the first team knocked out at this stage.
The Netherlands have only conceded one goal to date, have Virgil van Dijk and Matthijs de Ligt in the middle of their defence. They are capable of dominating possession in this game with the likes of Frenkie de Jong and Daley Blind. And their pace in attack should be USA’s undoing in this one.
Best bet: Netherlands to win is 4/5 with BetFred
