The Premier League returns from the international break on Saturday lunchtime with a crucial game for Manchester City if they’re to remain in the title hunt.

Pep Guardiola’s side welcome Liverpool to the Etihad Stadium for lunch, heading into the weekend eight points behind Arsenal, with just 11 games to go, albeit with one game in hand on the leaders.

The Citizens were ni excellent form prior to the break, winning six consecutive in all competitions, which includes three consecutive in the league and a thumping 6-0 thrashing of Vincent Kompany’s Burnley in the FA Cup.

Erling Haaland is officially listed as a doubt for this game but he’s started many games when in that position this season. Should the Norwegian superstar not be fit to start, then Julian Alvarez isn’t a bad alternative.

Phil Foden is the only City player officially ruled out before the weekend. The England international recently had his appendix removed.

Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp has a lot of injuries to deal with on top of players flying back from international duty from all across the world. This game will come too soon for midfielder Thiago to make his return, whilst defenders Joe Gomez and Calvin Ramsey are also sidelined. Attackers Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz are both doubtful too.

Manchester City head into the weekend on back-to-back Premier League clean sheets in a must-win game. There are no Champions League distractions as they don’t face Bayern Munich until 10 days’ later.

Liverpool’s form is far from their best – beaten 0-1 at Bournemouth in their last league outing and eliminated 2-6 by Real Madrid in the Champions League.
