Premier League
Leicester vs Everton prediction
Everton will be looking for their first Premier League points of the 2024/25 season at the fifth attempt when they travel to newly-promoted Leicester City on Saturday.
The Foxes themselves have only taken two points from their opening four games – losing at Fulham and at home to Aston Villa either side of their two draws. Whilst they did have an impressive 1-1 draw at home to Tottenham Hotspur in the opening Monday Night game of the season, they then blew a 2-0 lead to draw at Crystal Palace last weekend. They deservedly lost in both of their defeats.
Everton themselves will know what it feels like to bloew a 2-0 lead all too well as they have done for each of the past two weekends – 2-0 up with less than 5 minutes to go at home to Bournemouth only to lose 3-2 in the 6th minute of stoppage time. They repeated the lead at Aston Villa last weekend only to concede an equaliser just before the hour and the losing goal with 15 minutes to go. UEFA Champions League participants Villa were clear favourites heading into that match though, as we tipped.
Sean Dyche’s side deserved points at home to Bournemouth and I think they can produce a similar performance at the King Power Stadium this weekend. The manager could be boosted with the returns of Michael Keane, James Tarkowski and/or James Garner this weekend.
Dwight McNeil has been the Toffees’ best player this season, creating chances from midfield whilst Jack Harrison has the ability to do that. Whilst I am not a big fan of Dominic Calvert-Lewin he made a good run from a set piece to open the scoring at Villa Park last weekend and could repeat that feat in the East Midlands on Saturday.
Leicester’s defence is also without a clean sheet this season, conceding twice in each of their last three. Centre-back Wout Faes has mistakes in him, whilst Oliver Skipp and Harry Winks have not been great in protection this season.
The home side rely on 37-year-old Jamie Vardy up front for goals, with Stephy Mavididi scoring his first goal for the Foxes last weekend. Don’t fall for the trap of betting Leicester at their short odds this weekend – I really think Everton will avoid defeat.
