Premier League
Ipswich Town vs Aston Villa prediction
Aston Villa will be looking to take another three Premier League points before they welcome Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night; a rematch of the 1982 European Cup final in which the English side were crowned Champions of Europe.
12 months earlier, this weekend’s opponents, Ipswich Town, had their European moment when they won the UEFA Cup. Times have changed and the Tractor Boys are looking for their first Premier League win in over 20 years following their promotion back to the top flight for the first time since 2002, whilst their guys to Portman Road this weekend are looking to finish in the top four for a second successive seasno.
After being handed a terrible opening two fixtures, in which they were beaten 0-2 at home by Liverpool and then 1-4 at Manchester City, Kieran McKenna’s side have reeled off three successive top flight draws – at home to Fulham and away to Brighton & Hove Albion and Southampton.
Aston Villa will be a step up from the last three opponents and even if they do have half an eye on midweek, they have a lot of talent going forward to pick up the three points on the road this weekend. Youri Tielemans has been excellent in the middle of the park this season whilst Morgan Rogers has a very bright future ahead of him. The 22-year-old has 2 assists in 5 Premier League appearances this season despite not always looking composed in an around the penalty area.
Ollie Watkins leads the line with four goals whilst Colombian Jhon Duran has been a super sub with all four of his goals coming from five substitute appearances.
Although the Villans are without a clean sheet in their opening five league fixtures this season, Ipswich have only scored three goals in their five games. They have been split between Liam Delap, Sammy Szmodics and 33-year-old Sam Morsy. Hard work is the name of the game for the Tractor Boys in fixtures like this but I think they’ll do very well to get anything from this game despite the bookmakers not being as confident as me in the visitors.
Best bet: Aston Villa to win is 10/11 with Bet365
