Germany vs Scotland Euro 2024 Prediction

HINT: Germany HT ODDS: 8/11 14 JUN @ 20:00

Euro 2024 kicks off on Friday with hosts Germany entertaining Scotland at the Allianz Arena in Munich.

Germany will be competing in their first competitive match in over 18 months since they were eliminated from the group stage at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Meanwhile, Scotland will be competing in only their second major championship since France 1998, having qualified for a second consecutive European Championship. They have never made it out of the group stage of a Euros or a World Cup, never winning more than 1 game in any tournament. In fact, they haven’t won at an international tournament since Euro 96.

Scotland qualified for this summer’s tournament after finishing runners-up of Group A to Spain, six points clear of Norway. Georgia and Cyprus were the other two nations in the group. They scored 17 goals and only conceded 8 in their 8 qualifying matches, which included beating Spain 2-0 at Hampton Park in the second game of the group.

Manchester United midfielder top scored in Group A with an astonishing 7 goals – 1 more than Erling Haaland. Aston Villa’s John McGinn chipped in with a further 3 from midfield, whilst no one else had more than 1. Steve Clarke’s side are reliant on goals from midfield with the likes of Che Adams and Lawrence Shankland in attack anything but prolific. Injuries to yndon Dykes, Aaron Hickey, Lewis Ferguson, Nathan Patterson, Elliot Anderson and Ben Doak have been a setback for the minnows.

Any points would be a bonus for Scotland in their opening match as they will likely be looking for results against Hungary and Switzerland if they’re to progress past the group stage of a major international tournament for the first time in their history.

Germany’s lack of competitive games could have a negative impact, but home field advantage should have a positive. Julian Nagelsmann’s side have been vulnerable in defence despite the likes of Manuel Neuer, Antonio Rudiger, Jonathan Tah and Joshua Kimmich. They have Toni Kroos pulling the strings in the middle of the park and exciting attackers like Jamal Musiala, Kai Havertz and Florian Wirtz. They can also count on the experience of Thomas Muller, albeit the 34-year-old is without a single goal at any previous European Championship.

Germany have more than enough talent to kick off the tournament with a win and I can see them coming out the starting blocks quickly in front of a good atmsphere in the opening game. The pace in attack versus Scotland’s slow defence, mixed with some excellent passers should see them home comfortably. The best value I could find was Germany to make a quick start and lead at half time. And if they’re not leaving at half-time you can bet on them to win the second half to make a profit.

Best bet: Germany to lead at half-time is 8/11 with Bet365
