Premier League
Chelsea vs Man City prediction
Manchester City have the opportunity to move back within five points of Arsenal at the top of the Premier League as the leaders were held 0-0 at home by Newcastle United on Tuesday.
It won’t come easy for Pep Guardiola’s side as they travel to Stamford Bridge. Although Chelsea do sit down in 10th place heading into this fixture they do have enough talent in their squad to prevent the visitors taking all three points back home with them.
City returned from the World Cup with a comfortable 3-1 victory away to Leeds United before being surprisingly held 1-1 at home by struggling Everton on New Year’s Eve. I can only image the manager will have got under his players’ skin to make sure they give it their all to take all three points on Thursday.
Guardiola’s side did create plenty of chances to beat Everton late on but it just didn’t happen for them. I see them taking the game to Chelsea from the start and getting a two-goal lead before any thoughts of taking their foot off the gas come to mind.
Chelsea will be without Edouard Mendy, Reece James, Ben Chilwell and N’Golo Kante which is a huge blow for them, and is reflected by their league position following a run of poor results. They were held 1-1 at Nottingham Forest on New Year’s Day, meaning they have taken just five points from their last four Premier League games.
With Erling Haaland being supplied by the likes of Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, Jack Grealish, Riyad Mahrez, Phil Foden and Ilkay Gundogan, it only points to a Manchester City win in this one.
