4/1 League One Relegation Tip
Wigan Athletic were relegated from the Championship last season as their 12-point penalty dropped them from mid-table to 23rd.
The Latics were penalised for dropping into administration in July, shortly after their new owners had joined. The Greater Manchester club appealed but with no luck.
Manager Paul Cook has since left, as have numerous players. They don’t have much left from last season’s defence – key centre-back Chey Dunkley has moved to Sheffield Wednesday on a free transfer, left-back Antonee Robinson got a £2 million move to Fulham, On top of that, Cedric Kipre has moved to West Bromwich Albion and Leon Balogun to Rangers.
On top of that, Kieran Dowell has left the club following half-a-season on loan from Everton, holding midfielder Joe Williams moved to Bristol City for just over £1 million, pacey winger Jamal Lowe has gone to Swansea City, Josh Windass to Sheffield Wednesday, whilst Michael Jacobs and Anthony Pilkington have left on free transfers.
As a result, Wigan only have a handful of first team players available, promoting more than half of their squad from the youths. They don’t have much money to attract good players and have just sold off their training facilites. They still don’t have a new manager either, just over a week before they start their new season.
With all this in mind, 4/1 on Wigan Athletic to be relegated with Paddy Power represents great value.
