Premier League
Man Utd vs Southampton prediction
Manchester United are back at home on Saturday lunchtime as they welcome Southampton to Old Trafford after their 1-1 draw at bottom of the league Burnley midweek.
Victory for Ralf Ragnick’s side would see them end the day back in the top four, but victories haven’t been easy to come by of late. Last weekend they were beaten at home on penalties by Championship outfit Middlesbrough in the FA Cup.
Southampton twice came from behind to win 3-2 away to Tottenham Hotspur midweek, after beating Coventry City to book their place in the fifth round of the FA Cup.
Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side have lost just once in their last eight Premier League games, although it was 1-3 away to Wolverhampton Wanderers, who hadn’t been scoring many at the time. Aside from that, the south coast side are playing much better than their 10th place suggests.
United have had on the field issues and inconsistency for much of the season, whilst the German coach has only won 50% of his games in charge (W6, D5, L1) since replacing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at the start of December.
Despite their recent form, Manchester United are very short odds against a Southampton side who are proving difficult to beat. That makes for great value to lay the hosts at Old Trafford. Given the opportunity to return nearly 2:1 it’s great value to start the weekend. And should the favourites win then we have the rest of the weekend to still make good profit. Southampton getting a result here means we’ll have lots of profit to play with for the rest of the weekend.
Best bet: Lay Manchester United at 1.54
