Hungary vs Switzerland Euro 2024 prediction

HINT: BTTS ODDS: 11/10 15 JUN @ 14:00

Hungary-Switzerland kicks off the first of three matches at Euro 2024 on Saturday 15th June.

The Magyars qualified for their second successive European Championship as unbeaten Group G winners, albeit in a fairly favourable group, including Serbia, Montenegro, Lithuania and Bulgaria. They had a 100% win record at home but were W1, D3 on their travels.

RB Leipzig goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi and centre-back Willi Orban are key in defence whilst Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai will look to dictate play in central midfield.

Switzerland weren’t as convincing in qualifying, finishing 5 points behind Romania in Group I, only 2 ahead of Israel. Draws at home to Belarus and Kosovo weren’t impressive.

On paper they look the stronger team though. Internazionale goalkeeper Yann Sommer is protected by the likes of Manuel Akanji, Fabian Schar, Nico Elvedi and attacking left-back Ricardo Rodriguez.

Captain Granit Xhaka heads into the Euros having won the German Bundesliga with Bayer 04 Leverkusen. Not sure who starts up front for Switzerland as Breel Embolo has only played 180 minutes this past season due to injuries.

With Germany up next for Hungary this feels like it’s more important for them to get a result than Switzerland, but I’m expecting an open game with opportunities at both ends. So I think the best value is in the goals market.
