Southampton vs Sheff Utd prediction
Southampton can continue their surprise push for a top four place on Sunday when they welcome Sheffield United to St Mary’s in front of 2,000 fans.
The Saints had won five of their last six before the last international break, with the exception being a 3-3 draw at Chelsea. However, Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side haven’t been overly impressive since, drawing 1-1 away to Wolverhampton Wanderers, blowing a 2-0 half-time lead to lose 2-3 at home to Manchester United, before returning to winning ways, 2-1 away to Brighton & Hove Albion last time out.
This should be a straightforward win for Southampton on Sunday lunchtime though, as Sheffield United are showing up with just a single point from their opening 11 Premier League games this season, scoring five goals.
Chris Wilder’s side may be able to take some encouragement from their previous three outings at least, losing by a single goal in each, and Leicester City’s win at Bramall Lane last weekend came in the final minute.
I think Southampton’s defence is better than their record this season and this is a great opportunity to keep a clean sheet, having given up goals in each of their last three. It’s also a good chance for the likes of Danny Ings to add to his goal tally this season.
The odds would have been a lot shorter if Southampton hadn’t been going through a tricky patch so take advantage of what you’re being offered this weekend as it has a comfortable home win written all over it.
