Arsenal vs West Ham prediction

Arsenal will look to build on their FA Cup and Community Shield successes in the past two months by starting the 2020-21 Premier League season with six points from six.

Mikel Arteta’s side were very impressive in their 3-0 victory at Fulham to start the season, and whilst the Cottagers are newly-promoted, I don’t see West Ham United as being greatly better right now.

The Hammers were beaten 0-2 at home by Newcastle United in a lacklustre performance to say the least. Michail Antonio was about all they had in attack, whilst the likes of Felipe Anderson and Manuel Lanzini remain inconsistent and Sebastien Haller is yet to deliver the goods following his club record transfer last summer.

Arteta’s side were 1-0 winners in this fixture in what was the final game before the league was suspended in March. I think Arsenal have improved since then, with Gabriel and Willian making impressive debuts at Craven Cottage, whilst West Ham haven’t done much this summer.

I am actually surprised Arsenal’s odds aren’t shorter heading into this match given how poor West Ham look. This should be a straightforward home win and that being said make them worth backing albeit below evens.
