Tottenham Hotspur have the opportunity to close the gap on Chelsea to two points on Sunday when Jose Mourinho’s side travel to Aston Villa. His former side, currently occupying the final Champions League qualifying spot, don’t play until Monday, against Manchester United.
The North London side head to Villa Park on the back of consecutive victories and with two clean sheets in their last three Premier League matches. However, the Portuguese boss will have an eye on Wednesday’s Champions League second round tie at home to RB Leipzig.
Aston Villa were beaten 2-1 at fellow strugglers Bournemouth before their mini winter break last weekend and head into the weekend just one point above the relegation zone. They have just one clean sheet since November and look woeful at the back.
Whilst Spurs are without Harry Kane, they have a star in Steven Bergwijn, recently signed from PSV Eindhoven, who marked his debut with a stunning goal versus Manchester City at the beginning of the month. Son Heung-min and Lucas Moura make up the attack whilst Dele Alli had started scoring when Jose arrived at the club.
The bookmakers have Tottenham very narrowly below evens in an away game but I still see this as good value, particularly with the rest the side has had. This will have given Mourinho additional time to prepare his side, and we all know he’s a master tactician. The game is also televised if you prefer to bet in-play.
