An impressive Croatia side face Denmark in the 2018 World Cup second round on Sunday in a match between two nations who went unbeaten in the group stage.
Croatia took all nine points from their three games with a convincing 2-0 win over Nigeria to start their campaign that was followed up with a 3-0 thrashing of Argentina. They ended the group beating Iceland 2-1 late on in a game they didn’t even need to get anything from.
Many feel this is the final chance for Zlatko Dalic’s side to win a trophy with a number of their top stars now in their 30s. Perhaps Euro 2020 is still open for them though. However, with the side of the draw they are on, on paper only Spain are better and they aren’t playing too well. Can Croatia reach the final?
Mario Mandzukic isn’t hitting all cylinders but the likes of Luka Modric, Ivan Perisic and ivan Rakitic are all performing well. They have only conceded one goal too and face a Danish side who only have a handful of talented players.
Christian Eriksen is obviously the star for the Scandinavian side but Yussuf Poulsen played well down the right wing in the first two games, even if he did give a penalty away in each… harshly.
Whilst Denmark have been strong defensively they’ve reached the knockout stages with only two goals – a fortunate 1-0 win over Peru, drawing 1-1 with Australia and then 0-0 with France in a meaningless and dire game.
Therefore I a very confident in Croatia progressing to the quarter-finals from this tie, and should do so in the 90 minutes.
